I Am Bread, Harry | Christmas Countdown – Day 3

I Am Bread is an interesting release from Bossa Studios. It is currently in Early Access, and shares the same style of controls as Surgeon Simulator. However, there is a lot more to it than just toasting a slice of bread.

When I first launched the game, it took me four or five times to complete my destiny. This was mainly due to my flimsy toaster tipping over so that the open side was facing the wall. I tried countless times to get it upright again, but I couldn’t get enough momentum and thus was forced to restart.

At the end of the level you are shown a score sheet that displays edibility, toast quality and deliciousness. I had not realized this when I first started, and began interacting with the various ingredients around The Kitchen: jam, bread, raw eggs, etc. Some of them increased the deliciousness, while others lowered my edibility (namely eggs).

Apart from ingredients, there are so many more items you can interact with. There is a rocket on the first level, The Kitchen, which I intend to try myself at one point. I only know it works from seeing it in Oliver Age 24’s music video, but who can deny a slice of bread the chance to fly. You also will need to be creative in future levels, as the toaster is not always there to help you achieve your dreams.

My only issue so far is that the controls are difficult when using a keyboard and mouse. I understand that this is the style they are going for, as bread doesn’t typically move, but they look a lot more intuitive on the controller.

Aside from the gameplay, Bossa Studios have stated on their Steam page that there is a story. It won’t be apparent until they have finished the game, but they assure us it will be worth the wait. There plan is to have the whole experience completed early 2015, at which point they will come out of Early Access.

I Am Bread is currently on sale for £5.94, until December 10th, when it will go back up to £6.99. Over the course of development, the price is set to increase as more content is added, so grab it early for a good deal.

Warning! This is an Early Access game. Anything and everything can change, and may change over the course of development. By purchasing the game in this state, you are buying the current product and an idea. There is a chance that the finished product may be different from the original idea, or that it may not be completed. Please bear this in mind before buying.

I Am Bread was playing using a code provided by Bossa Studios.
